That’s right! With The Mindy Project wrapping up its final season and my last knits for her have been mailed off… I’ll be transitioning into this next project full speed!
Writing a knitting book has been a dream of mine for several years. I’ve spent a LOT of time thinking about it during my deadline knitting marathons. And I’ve done a LOT of talking about it “to” my husband (he just listens as I blab on about all of my ideas and then tells me “that sounds great!”). And I’ve done a LOT of ogling yarn deciding what would photograph well and what colors and brands I want to work with. So many decisions made and yet this is only the beginning!
I’ve been very busy knitting for clients and meeting some tight deadlines, but it’s time for me to finally get this book ball rolling! I’ll still be working on some super cool and super top-secret projects, but I’m excited to start sharing pictures of what’s to come in my debut book.
So what can I tell you for now? The name of the book is Knits That Rock: Volume 1. Why Volume 1? Because this is only the first of many (assuming this first book doesn’t kill me!). KTRv1 will be filled with edgy designs and many will incorporate some of my trademark details like studs, spikes, metallic, and maybe even some chain or rhinestones!
I’ve also decided to use ONLY indie dyed yarn because indie dyers are the best! I’m often caught staring at walls of indie dyed yarn when I’m teaching and my students say the same thing, “I never know what to do with the splatter or space dyed yarns that are so popular now.” Well guess what – I’m about to give you a whole load of ideas beyond hats and scarves that will give you the chance to use those amazing and unique colorways! Some of the indie dyers I’m already working with are Candy Skein, MollyGirl Yarn, In the Deep Hue Sea, Haute Knit Yarn, Knitted Wit, Anzula…just to name a few! I mean seriously – that’s a list of nothing but color, color, and more color!
What else can I tell you? There is going to be an entire video series that will accompany the book. I’m going to reveal ALL of my secrets (my knitting secrets, that is – let’s keep this a family show!). I’ll be showing you my embellishing techniques, tricks to make your designs more polished
and professional looking, and a whole load of tips to help you through completing each project.
Much like many of my favorite albums (such as Eve 6 self-titled, Marvelous 3 Hey! Album, Bayside Killing Time, Motion City Soundtrack Even if it Kills Me…I could keep going), every “track” (or “pattern!”) is going to be better than the one before! I literally stay awake at night thinking about pattern designs and what great techniques I can incorporate and teach.
So to wrap up this announcement…here’s what to expect with Knits That Rock: Vol1
Lots of stunning colorful yarns!
So many tips and tricks
Bookmark this blog because I’m going to be taking all of you through the process of writing a book, making all the decisions (hopefully not too many wrong ones!), prepping for a photo shoot, filming tutorials…everything! It’s going to be a fun ride and I look forward to having you all along for whatever craziness Knits That Rock: Volume 1 brings me!
